An Old Town in Prague, Czech Republic

This picture exemplifies what decades of authoritarian rule did to Prague. The architectural view is wonderfully picturesque. Yet the focal point of the shot is a woman with her head turned down and the demolition of a building seen through an open archway.

Prior to gaining its freedom, Prague’s wealth of old architecture lay to waste. So too did many of the people in the city who felt powerless to control the future of their lives and city.
