A Stone Lion Guards the Temple Door of Angkor Wat

A stone lion stands at the entrance to the Bayon temple complex, built before 1200 C.E. This lion guards the cruciform terrace connecting the causeway to the central structure.

Many similar figures with the short body and the long neck are found in the Angkor Wat temple. Steps flanked by lions on pedestals are on the sides of the terrace.
